Notification of wakf property with clear titles by Dec-end

The State government has directed the deputy commissioners of all districts who are also the chairmen of the respective district-level task forces to complete the survey of wakf properties to enable the government to issue a notification of surveyed wakf properties with clear titles by the end of December.

This was disclosed to reporters by Minister for Minority Welfare, Wakf and Haj, Qamarul Islam, after a meeting with the DCs and other officers concerned of eight districts in the city on Wednesday.

Islam said that in the first phase all the wakf properties, the title deeds of which have been found to be proper, would be notified by the end of December. In the second phase, the wakf properties which have been encroached upon will be taken up for restoring the titles to the owners.

“If the State issues a gazette notification of wakf properties having clear titles by the end of December, it will be helpful for the State government to avail assistance from the Centre for the development of wakf propertiess,’’ Islam said.

The Centre has decided to constitute a National Wakf Development Corporation with a corpus fund of Rs 500 crore, he said, adding that efforts were on to prevail upon the Centre to increase the corpus fund to at least Rs 1,000 crore.

The minister said the government had given permission to all the DCs to hire vehicles and engage licensed surveyors for the expeditious completion of survey work. He pointed out that survey of wakf properties had been going on in the State since 2002, but to this day it had not been completed.

B H Anil Kumar, principal secretary to the department of Minority Welfare, Wakf and Haj, Karnataka Wakf Board chief executive officer Anees Ahmed, DCs and additional DCs of eight districts and incharge regional commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas, who is also the Bellary DC, attended the meeting.
