A variety of talents

Actor-singer Ayushmann Khurrana, who took the music world by storm with his Punjabi romantic song Paani Da Rang in his debut film Vicky Donor, is set to launch his single. He will release his independent song O Heeriye under the Yash Raj music label. However, he rues that independent music still has to struggle to get support. “I think with independent music, it’s difficult to grab more eyeballs in our country. You hardly get any support from music channels or radio stations. It is not even supported by the narrative of any film,” Ayushmann says. After his debut, the 28-year-old sang two more songs — Tu Hi Tu and Saddi Gali — for his second film Nautanki Saala. He accepts that being a known face helped his music gain recognition. “I wouldn’t have got that support if I was not an actor or if my previous songs were not big hits. I think in India, cricket and cinema are two big entities and if you do something good in these two, then you are revered and you get public support,” he says. Ayushmann, who has donned many hats like a video jockey, an actor, a singer and assistant director, seems quite content with his choice of career and feels artistes should experience everything in the film industry.”One should be a part of everything in film-making. I also assisted Shoojit Sircar in Hamara Bajaj. So I think it’s just about being a part of the whole film-making process-music, production or anything. I think you should enjoy being in the industry. It’s great that I got the opportunity,” he says. He clarified that being multi-talented was never his intention. “I think it’s great if you have multiple talents. Although there was no intention to be multi-talented, I think even if you have one talent and you are giving your best to that, that is enough,” he signs off.

Bonding on the sets

Kainaat Arora, popular for her item song Aila Re Aila from the movie Khatta Meetha with Akshay Kumar, will be seen in Indra Kumar’s Grand Masti opposite Vivek Oberoi. This is Kainaat’s first stepping stone in Bollywood with a full-fledged role. Kainaat, who is excited about the role, says, “My role is of a nerdy girl, with a look similar to that of ‘Ugly Betty’ who then turns into a hot babe. She will also have an extra-marital affair. I am paired opposite Vivek in the film. It was fun shooting with him. Vivek is a wonderful human being who is very supportive. Not even once did I feel that this is my first film.” Kainaat has also become good friends with Vivek’s wife Priyanka and they bonded on the sets! “Priyanka is so sweet and it’s ironical that I am having an extra-marital affair with Vivek in the film. But eventually, in real life, we bonded like never before,” she quips.

Akshay turns a year older

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who turned 46 recently, was overwhelmed with several birthday wishes. The actor says he has been touched by how some fan clubs celebrated his special day at orphanages, and by organising blood donation camps.

The actor, who is often called tinsel town’s khiladi thanks to the string of action films he has done in the past, took to Twitter to thank his fans. ”Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Saying it as many times won’t be enough. Blessed to get so much love... saw so many of you celebrating my birthday as if it was your own, cutting cakes and treating friends.

But what touched me most was how some of you celebrated my birthday at
orphanages and even organised blood donation camps. Thank you for making
‘Boss Ka Birthday’ memorable. Love you all,” the post says.

The actor is busy promoting his forthcoming action film ‘Boss.’ The movie features actors like Shiv Pandit, Aditi Rao Hydari, Danny Denzongpa, Ronit Roy and Johnny Lever. It will release next month.

“What excited me most was that we were going to be shooting in a village. I don’t think I have ever done a film where I actually go to a village. So that part excited me a lot,” the 32-year-old says.
