Last Updated 12 September 2013, 20:52 IST

The City police have arrested 14 young men, of eight whom are minors, for being part of an alleged crime ring that stole high-end mobile phones and iPods from the gullible public.

The suspects are Akash Kumar, 20, Amar Nath Mahato, 22, Vikram Kumar, 20, Vicky Kumar, 19, Vijay Kumar Mahato, 20, and Samu, 19. The minors cannot be named as per law.

All the suspects hail from Jharkhand.

The alleged kingpin, Sunil Kumar Mahato, had recruited the youth, brought them to the City and engaged them in lifting the gadgets, police said, adding that 50 high-end mobile phones worth about Rs six lakh had been recovered from the suspects.

The alleged members of the gang would supply the mobile phones to Mahato in Delhi who would then sold them off in the national capital.

The gang was busted after the police received a criminal intelligence input about its operations in the City. The underage suspects have been entrusted to Bosco, a child rights NGO.

Efforts are on to trace their parents and send them back.
