A Delhi Police constable was suspended after a 32-year-old woman alleged molestation in north-east Delhi’s Nand Nagri on Saturday morning, police said.

In her complaint to police, the woman said she is married and acquainted with Hari Ram, a constable posted at Nand Nagri police station.

She alleged that he barged into her house in an inebriated condition around 4.15 am.
“She was sleeping alone on the ground floor of the house,” a police officer said, quoting her.

Her husband was not at home when the incident took place as he is a taxi driver and was on night shift. She told police that she spurned Hari’s advances, but he told her to keep quite and threatened her with dire consequences.

Thereafter, the woman raised an alarm and neighbours rushed to her help. It is alleged that Hari managed to flee when locals began gathering outside the house.

The woman also informed her husband and he immediately arrived at the house. He along with the neighbours then initiated a search in the area after which Hari was overpowered near his house.

Her husband later made a call to the police control room after which Hari was handed over to police. A case under Indian Penal Code was filed over her complaint.

V V Choudhary, Additional Commissioner of Police (North-East), said a departmental inquiry has been initiated in this regard.

“Hari has been placed under suspension after acting upon the complaint given by the woman. Any further action would be taken only after the initial probe is over,” Choudhary added.

Meanwhile, the woman’s family alleged that they were approached by some police officers of Nand Nagri police station and were pressurising them to take the complaint back. Choudhary denied the allegations terming the account fictitious.
