Cancelling her daughter’s marriage with a youth proved fatal for the mother, when the youth, with whom the marriage had been fixed, allegedly shot her dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district, about 150 kilometres from here.

The youth, identified as Shahid, shot the woman twice after she came out of her residence at Shekhpur village on Saturday and fled from the spot. The woman was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead.

The reports said, Shahid's marriage had been fixed with Noorjahan. But the girl’s family later cancelled the marriage after they came to know that Shahid was uneducated.

Shahid and his family tried their best to persuade Noorjahan’s parents but they did not relent.

On Saturday, Shahid along with his two friends went to Noorjahan’s house. Shahid fired twice from a country made pistol after Noorjahan's mother opened the door and came out, the police said.

A case has been registered and a search has been launched to nab the culprits, police added.

The officers said Shahid intended to kill the girl but since her mother came out first, he shot her dead.

Earlier also the girls had been attacked after refusing to marry.

Barely a few days back, a 22 year old girl had been attacked with acid by her fiancée in Agra town after the marriage was cancelled. The marriage proposal had to be dropped by the girl’s family after the boy's family reportedly demanded a hefty dowry.

Incidentally, it was the eight incident of acid attack on girls in Agra in the past two months, sources said. Barely a couple of days ago, four members of a family had been attacked with acid after they had refused to accept a marriage proposal from a youth in Bulandshahar district.
