Miscreants set fire to copra stock in Tiptur

Last Updated 16 September 2013, 18:29 IST

A farmer’s copra produce was set ablaze by miscreants in Nonavinakere in the Tiptur taluk in Tumkur district on Sunday. Chikkanna, whose house was burnt last year in a fire, had incurred a loss of Rs 30 lakh.

It is suspected that the fire was not accidental. This year, the copra that he had stocked was burnt to ashes, causing him a loss of Rs 90,000.

Miscreants set the copra heaps on fire on Sunday night by pouring kerosene over them. The fire brigade arrived and then doused the fire.

Cases have been registered against Shankarappa, Rajanna and Basavaraju of Nonavinakere in connection with the fire. The suspects however are absconding.

It is said that rivalry over management of the Beeralingeshwara temple is what led to the miscreants to set the copra on fire. ASP Karthik Reddy and CPI Ramakrishna visited the spot.
