Footprints 2009: SIMC seminar today

Awards to be presented to two media professionals

The central theme of the event is “Green Battle.” Deccan Herald is the media partner for the event.

Among the panelists at the seminar are A Ravindra, Chairman, Centre for Sustainable Development, Dr Yellapa Reddy, Former Secretary, Environment and Ecology Department, environmentalists Gerry Martin, Suresh Heblikar and K P Pravinjith.

The second theme for the day is “The resurgence of Kannada in media”. Conscious efforts are being made to inculcate Namma Bhashay in the media, and Footprints intends to trace these attempts and encourage the movement to keep Kannada alive, said a press release.

The speakers for this theme are Arundhati Nag, A S Murthy, Rachana Krishnamurthy and Chitrashree Kadam.

Two young media professionals will also be awarded Young Communicator Awards, in recognition of their excellence in the industry. Footprints will also host an NGO exhibition, where several stalls by various NGOs will be put up.

An added attraction is a cultural performance by dance troupe Arya Varta and an essay writing and photography contest for students.
