While Yogeshwar Dutt’s replacement, Bajrang, lost to Vladimir Vladimirov Dubov of Bulgaria 0-7, Hitender faced a 0-8 defeat at the hands of Georgia’s Geno Petriashvili in a one-sided affair after both the Indians were granted byes in the first rounds.

Pawan too suffered defeat in the opening bout but not before putting up a close fight (8-9) against Feng Zhang of China, at the Papp Laszlo Sports Arena.

Bajrang was first tripped by his opponent who collected two points on the offensive takedown.Trailing by two points, the Indian went on the offensive but was unsuccessful in finding an opening. The Bulgarian, instead, delivered a five pointer and sealed the contest in his favour through a technical fall.

In the 84kg tie, Pawan played catch up to China’s Zhang after he conceded early points and trailed 0-4. The Indian bounced back to collect three points through a take down before his opponent extended his lead and romped home.
