JOIN USThe JD(S), in yet another effort to shed the Vokkaliga party tag, is likely to appoint Madhu Bangarappa as its chief whip in the Legislative Assembly. JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy said that Madhu will be the chief whip in all probability.
“We want to give primacy to leaders of backward classes. We have identified four to five capable persons. We will encourage them. One among them is Madhu,” he said.
He said though there were many aspirants for the chief whip’s post, they zeroed in on Madhu. A meeting to take a final decision has been convened next Monday, he said.
Kumaraswamy said the process of identifying candidates for the Lok Sabha polls has begun. Madhu will select candidates for the Shimoga and Uttara Kannada seats, where he has considerable influence over the voters. “He will consult his family members and take a final decision on the selection of candidates for Shimoga, his home district. The party did well in both districts in the Assembly polls. Hence, he has been tasked with selection of candidates,” Kumaraswamy said.
