Brace for a 'power'less Sunday in City

BWSSB work will also affect water supply next week

Bangaloreans will have to go without power and water in the next three days with Bescom and BWSSB scheduling maintenance works.

Power supply in many parts of the City will be disrupted on on Sunday as Bescom is taking up maintenance work on a massive scale. A Bescom official said that no significant maitenance work had been undertaken for nearly one-and-a-half years as requisite permission could not be obtained.

Bescom is presently upgrading its faciltiies by installing Distribution and Automation System. “We have to complete the automation by end of 2013, so we will have to do it on a large scale. While the incovenience caused by this is great for a day, the benefits in the long run are greater,” the official said.

Once the new system is in place, pinpointing a fault in a particular line, which now takes about an hour, could take just five minutes, according to the official. “During heavy rains, disruptions in power lines can cut power for seven to eight hours in an area. With this system in place, we can supply power from a parallel line,” the official said.

Water supply

All the five stages of the Cauvery water supply will be stopped for six hours on September  24, to take up various electrical works. Supply to all parts of the City will be disrupted on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Commissioning of the second 25-MVA transformer will be taken up in order to get necessary electricity to Cauvery 4th Stage Phase II project, at Harohalli.  Similarly, the work of delinking existing 220 KV KPTCL line and commissioning of newly erected 220 KV metering bay at Harohalli and linking of 6 6KV UG cable to the existing overhead line of CWSS Stage I,II and III will be taken up at Tataguni.
