Last Updated 20 September 2013, 19:10 IST

Parents of a number of children from the VLS International School, Basaveswaranagar staged a protest in front of the school alleging that the management had not allowed their wards to write their mid-term exam that began on Friday.

The school authorities had recently been rapped during the public hearing of the Right to Education Act, for raising fees to Rs 32,000 from Rs 19,000.

The parents alleged that their children were not allowed to write exams for not paying the hiked fee.

Notice to school

DDPI, Bangalore North, B P Venkatesh, has issued a notice to the school asking it to allow Y N Shravan Gowda (a class 6 student of the school whose case came up during the public hearing) and other students to write their exams.

“Ever since the RTE hearing, the school has been acting in a  discriminatory manner by not giving assignments to the children concerned and had also told us that they would not give us hall tickets unless we pay the hiked fees” said H R Ramesh, president of the VLS School Parent’s Association.
