J and K Congress minister slaps colleague

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) senior Congress leader and Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din slapped state vice-president Ghulam Nabi Monga during a meeting in Jammu on Saturday.

At a time when allegations have surfaced against state Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir for having attempted to topple the Omar Abdullah government with the help of former Army chief Gen V K Singh, Saturday’s incident reaffirms the fact that all is not well within the state Congress.

Sources told Deccan Herald that the situation turned volatile when Taj reportedly slapped MLC Monga after both leaders entered into a heated brawl over some issue.

Monga confirmed the incident and said that Taj is upset as he is losing ground in his constituency of Uri.

“He is losing ground in Uri which has frustrated him to the extent that he is now attacking and abusing the party leaders,” Monga claimed.

Despite repeated attempts, Taj wasn’t available for comment. The incident took place hours after senior All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders, including former chief minster and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and AICC general secretary and in-charge of J&K affairs Ambika Soni, arrived in Srinagar.
