Battle to save honour

Tune in to ‘300’ on WB at 9 pm on September 25. ‘300’ tells the story of the ‘Battle of Thermopylae’ in 480 B.C. Persians under the rule of King Xerxes have taken over some of the Hellenic cities and threaten Sparta and Athens.

King Leonidas of Sparta is left with two options— he will either have to sacrifice himself or watch Sparta burn to the ground. Leonidas forms an army of 300 Spartan warriors to block the narrow passage of Thermopylae, where Xerxes intends to reach Hellas. The 300 warriors are accompanied by 700 Thespians who manage to slay Persians and prevent their entry. However, an enemy reveals the way to a secret passage.

The movie depicts the last stand of the Spartan soldiers who are aware of their fate, but are motivated by ‘honour and glory.’ The battle is their duty to protect Greece for as long as
possible.
