The High Court, on Thursday, ordered notice to Mangalore City Municipal Corporation Corporator M Abdul Azeez in connection with an appeal by the State government seeking to vacate the stay on election to mayor and deputy mayor posts in various City Municipal Corporations.
The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice B V Nagarathna, hearing an appeal, ordered notice to the petitioner after the State government submitted that, as per Supreme Court directions, court cannot interfere in the matter after the notification is issued. The State government submitted that the process for election of mayors and deputy mayor was announced on the same day when the notification was issued on August 21, 2013.
