Inflation is expected to soar further with the railways decision to levy a 15 per cent freight tariff on all commodities, including food grain, cement, chemical manure, iron ore and coal.

The “busy season” charge is to be levied from October 1.

According to a railway notification, the additional charge will remain in force till June 2014, with the exception of container and automobile traffic.

The move has come at a time when inflation rate has increased from 5.79 per cent in July to 6.1 per cent in August.

The review of the fuel adjustment component (FAC), applicable after every six months to adjust fuel prices, is also due on October 1.
