In a joint operation, Mahadevapura and Banaswadi Police rescued a businessman Anand, 23, from his abductors. Four people were arrested in this regard on Saturday.

Anand, who operates Supriya Travels in Mahadevapura, in Banaswadi, was held by his friend Prabhakar, who had plotted the abduction for ransom. Prabhakar was assisted by his three associates — Dilip, Chethan and Chandan.

The police are questioning them to ascertain the cause for abduction.

Anand, a native of Malur, Kolar district, is a close friend of Prabhakar, a resident of Banaswadi. The two had fallen foul in recent days due to financial matters. Prabhakar took Anand from his residence on Friday on the pretext of buying a new car and reached Mahadevapura Ring Road where Dilip, Chethan and Chandan were waiting. Anand was taken to a house in Banaswadi and confined there, police said.

The abductors then called Anand’s family members demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. Anand’s wife immediately lodged a complaint with Mahadevapura Police who traced them based on cellphone calls.
