Mandya set to welcome Sonia Gandhi

The town has been decked up with banners, flexes and hoardings to welcome All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi during her visit on Monday.

A spacious stage has been put up on the sprawling Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium where Sonia is scheduled to address a public rally at 3 pm.

More than two lakh Congress workers from Ramanagara, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Bangalore are expected to take part in the rally during which Sonia will thank voters for supporting the party candidates in the recent byelections to Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Council.

The party’s Karnataka in-charge Digvijay Singh, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC chief G Parameshwara, former minister S M Krishna, district in-charge minister Ambareesh, MPs Ramya and D K Suresh will share the dais. 

Besides, most of the ministers and legislators will also be present, said the party sources.

Security

Superintendent of Police Bhushan Borase said as many as 1,500 police personnel, including six additional SPs and 12 DySPs will be deployed on the occasion. 

Parking facilities have been made in nine areas for vehicles from outside.

Besides, the SP has appealed to travellers to use alternative routes to Mysore and Bangalore on Monday, in order to ease the traffic flow.
