A starry mix

Veteran actor Om Puri’s forthcoming Hollywood release ‘The Hundred Foot Journey’ is special on many counts. Firstly, the film stars Oscar-winning British actor Helen Mirren as the female lead alongside Puri, who plays the male protagonist.

Also, this project has seen Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios and Anil Ambani’s Reliance Entertainment coming together once again.

“Anil (Ambani) and I met in Cannes in 2008 when the global economic meltdown had hit everyone. My company DreamWorks was in bad shape and we will always be grateful to Anil for helping us get back on our feet,” Steven says. The film is slated to release on August 8, 2014.

Finally, the truth is out

Rani Mukerji’s fans have always been curious about what went wrong between the actress and Abhishek Bachchan. The two, who were once touted as the next ‘Amitabh-Jaya’ of Bollywood, fizzled out without a trace.

After maintaining silence for over five years, Rani finally spills the beans. Clarifying her absence in Abhi-Ash’s wedding, the actress reveals, “The truth is that if a person chooses not to invite you to their wedding, you realise where you stand with the person. The poor guy has been married for many years, we should all move on.

I will always have fond memories of working with him!” Buzz is that Rani and Abhishek completely ignore each other’s presence even when they come face-to-face in parties.
Rani jokes, “Do we? Maybe the lighting at the party was bad. I’ve no idea!” After so many years, it sure seems like Rani has clearly moved on!

This on-screen jodi has worked in many hit films like Bas Itna Sa Khawab Hai, Yuva, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, among others.

They were appreciated for their roles in 2005 blockbuster Bunty Aur Babli
which also starred Amitabh Bachchan. The actors were last paired opposite each other in Pradeep Sarkar’s Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, which bombed at the box-office.

Busy with promotions

Hrithik Roshan’s break from the sets of ‘Bang Bang’, post his brain surgery, has made Katrina Kaif sit at home. Fortunately for the actress, she didn’t have to twiddle her thumbs as she kept herself busy with multiple endorsement shoots. However, the fact is, she spent a good three months away from the studios.

In this interim period, several important professional developments have taken place. Kat has signed Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor with Sushant Singh Rajput. More importantly, she has bagged Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos with her beau Ranbir Kapoor.

When Katrina gets busy with the promotions, Hrithik is likely to start shooting for Karan Malhotra’s Shuddhi opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan. Considering Jagga Jasoos and ‘Bang Bang’ are slated for 2014 release, Kat will constantly be swinging between Hrithik and Ranbir.

Actor even in jail

Actor Sanjay Dutt seems to be all set to reprise his Lage Raho Munnabhai role, albeit in jail, with other inmates as his co-stars. The 54-year-old actor is hard at work to perfect his role in the play Teemiratun... Tejakade (From Darkness to Light) that deals with Gandhism and alcoholism. The play is being directed by Rahul Solapurkar, and Dutt’s friend-film-maker Rajkumar Hirani is giving inputs to fine-tune it. Hirani has
directed Dutt in Lage Raho which was about Gandhigiri as well. Sporting a salt-and-pepper beard and looking fit after shedding a few kiols, Dutt will also dance to the song Bande mein tha dum from Lage Raho Munnabhai. He is the star attraction of the show and all donation passes have been sold ahead of the event. The play is an initiative to raise funds for the prison staff and their family members. The jail authorities expect to raise Rs 5 lakh from ticket sales.
