Jyoti Nivas Pre-University College has a new set of ambitious young girls who have taken on the responsibility of representing the student body of the college. Metrolife speaks to the newly-elected student council members.

Being the student-president isn’t an easy job and Irene Koshy is well aware of this. “As president, I will try to help students achieve their full potential. I will value teamwork and coordination and encourage my batchmates to take an active part in everything, be it cultural activities or academics,” she shares.

Vice president Lisa George is the one who’s always ready to step in when the need
arises. “From the beginning, the standards were set quite high for our fest. Our aim this year was to make sure that the audience was captivated at all times. We split the 24 events evenly on both days and simultaneously carried out the events at different venues on campus.

This way, students had a choice of watching the events based on their own personal interest. We have also started working on our next big event ‘Spygmus’, an inter-collegiate sports fest. We hope that all goes well and participation levels are high!” says Lisa. For sports secretary Hera, ‘Spygmus’ is the main thing on her mind. “I look forward to active participation from the students and will do what I can to make the fest a success,” she says.

Shamantha Manogaran, the cultural secretary, says that her main job so far was to organise and execute ‘Artemis’. “I hope to make all our intra-collegiate events fun, interesting and enjoyable for the students and to encourage participation at various inter-college fests in a way that every student who wishes to gets a chance to portray her talents is allowed to,” says Shamantha.

Treasurer Nidhi Shetty says that her job is to look after the expenses during
college events as well as for fests of other colleges.

“Working for fests helps you think with a larger perspective. Our juniors thought that college is pretty boring but after our fest, many of them have showed the college loyalty that was lacking earlier. To create unity and love for such an amazing
college is my basic aim,” she notes.
