JOIN USThe judicial custody of self-styled godman, Asaram Bapu, who was arrested for sexual assault of a minor girl, has been extended till October 11. Asaram Bapu is in the Jodhpur central jail for the last one month in connection with the case.
The controversial 72-year-old Asaram’s bail petition would come up for hearing in the Rajasthan High Court on October 1. Noted Supreme Court criminal lawyer Ram Jathmalani is arguing his case.
Asaram was sent to judicial custody by a local court in the after a 16-year-old girl lodged a complaint of sexual assault against him at his Jodhpur ashram with the police on August 20.
His close aide Shilpi, who was absconding for weeks after the spiritual guru’s arrest in the sexual assault case, on September 25 surrendered in the Jodhpur session court. The court extended her police custody for three more days.
Meanwhile, a large number of Asaram Bapu supporters gathered in Jodhpur and created ruckus. The police dispersed the crowd.
