Filmi Fundas....

Proud of her choices

Soha Ali Khan, a graduate of Oxford University, is an actress like her mother Sharmila Tagore. But she says her star mom is still not happy with her choice of profession and wants Soha to be a lawyer. Soha, who holds a masters degree from the London School of Economics, made her Bollywood debut with Dil Maange More!!! in 2004.

Most of her movies haven’t done well at the box-office, but the actress
has been appreciated for her performances in movies like Rang De Basanti and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns.

The actress reveals, “My mother is still not happy with what I am doing. Even now, she calls me on Sundays, and says you can still be a lawyer, it’s not too late. You must go to Harvard University. You have studied so much and you are not making use of it.”

The actress continues, “I’ve to tell her that I am really enjoying what I am
doing. I am happy, but as a mother she is worried about me. Her main concern is what I’ll do in the next 10 or 20 years.”

Sharmila may have reservations about her daughter’s career choice, but she is cool with Soha’s live-in relationship with her boyfriend Kunal Khemu.

“Mom is very cool. But she says she is tired of telling us. She says now that you are grown up, there is no point running after you,” the actress adds.

Soha adds, “My mother thinks I should have been a lawyer, a married woman, and should have given birth two to three kids. She keeps asking what are you guys
doing?”

The 34-year-old actress, who is busy promoting war comedy War Chhod
Na Yaar, says people like regional movies as there is honesty in them. Soha has been part of Bengali films like Antarmahal and Iti Srikanta.

She says, “People like regional films because there is honesty, truth and identity in those films. Meanwhile, Hindi cinema needs to relate to everyone. Regional films like in Bengali can be rooted in culture.

I have done two Bengali films and I am proud about them”. Directed by Faraz Haidar, War Chhod Na Yaar also features Sharman Joshi and Jaaved Jaaferi.

Back in traditional attire

One of the biggest Bollywood sensations is all set to hit the screen in an all new avatar.
Bollywood beauty Sonakshi Sinha has charmed the audience with her simplicity and is back again with Bullett Raja to woo her fans. This time, however, she will be seen in a whole new avatar.

Sonakshi will be seen as a Bong beauty. For her role in the film, Sonakshi has left no stone unturned. She will be seen performing a Bengali folk dance called jhumur dance.

This is a typical Bengali dance and is practiced all over West Bengal. Sonakshi will be seen wearing the quintessential red-bordered sari, along with big red bindi on her forehead, gajrah in her hair and alta on her hands.

About the look, Sonakshi says, “I am playing a Bengali girl for the second time. I have played a Bengali woman in Lootera, but that was drastically different. I was a 1950 Bengali girl, who is a zamindars’ daughter. In Bullett Raja, I am playing a contemporary girl. I love my look in the film.

It gave me a very traditional feel. I wish the sequence we shot in that costume was a little longer because I did not want to get out of it.”The traditional dance seems to have won her heart.

She says, “There is a certain grace to my look. Once I was in it, everyone was shocked at how I looked. The jhumur is a feminine dance and the choreographer Brinda was really good at it.”

Bullett Raja is premised on fictional mafia based in Uttar Pradesh. The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Jimmy Shergill, Vidyut Jamwal, Gulshan Grover, Raj Babbar and Chunky Pandey. The film will release on November 29.

The movie will hit the theatres on October 11.

Changing looks for others

Zarine Khan has never been the conventional slim-and-trim Bollywood actress ever since she entered the film industry with Salman Khan-starrer Veer.

However, of late, the actress seems to have lost a lot of weight. She says it’s not for any film but for the media. Zarine adds, “No, it’s not for any film. I have lost weight for you all (media). There was a lot of criticism from you people.”

The actress has gone through a lot of criticism for her weight from the time her first film hit the screens. Zarine is said to have been switching between power yoga, cardio bootcamp and weight training to get into shape.

Last seen in ‘Housefull 2’, she will soon be seen in director Remo D’Souza’s next project, starring Rajeev Khandelwal. “I have just finished shooting for a film which features Rajeev and me. I am also doing a Punjabi film,” she reveals.
