Last Updated 03 October 2013, 19:05 IST

A newborn baby was abandoned by the mother at Hill Side Hospital, in Padmanabhanagar, on October 2. The childline 1098 received a call from the hospital saying a newborn baby was abandoned and the mother had gone missing after delivering the child.

The mother aged about 21, it is learnt, came to the hospital for a check up on September 20 and later complained of labour pain for which she was admitted. After delivering the baby she left the place without informing anyone, according to Jennifer from Bosco Mane.
The woman had registered herself in the name of Chitra from Hoskerehall. When the hospital tried to trace the mother, they learnt the information provided was false. The child is lodged at Shishu Mandir and kept there for three months within which efforts would be made to trace the mother. If untraced, the Child Welfare Committee will then take a call, according to Jennifer.

Fake medicines: 4 held

Four men have been arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the City police on a charge of selling Ayurvedic medicines of companies having names similar to well-known brands. The arrested are Goutam Jain, 40, Dharamchand, 29, Dinesh Motavat, 23 and Navaratan, 24. The CCB, who said the raid was carried out on a tip-off, have shown fake medicines worth Rs three lakh as being seized from the suspects.

The medicines were allegedly being sold under unregistered names, Nutrigrow and Nutrislimmer, so that customers “confuse” them for popular brands, Nutrigain+ and Nutrislim+. A case has been registered at Chamarajpet police station.
