JOIN USA man from Nelagadaranahalli has alleged that his estranged wife, in “collusion” with her brother, “hired” five miscreants who barged into his house, threatened him with a knife, locked him up before fleeing with 140-gm gold jewellery and Rs 25,000 cash on Wednesday.
Ravi Kumar, known in the neighbourhood as ‘Bakery Ravi’ as he runs a bake shop, lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that his wife Saroja, who lives upstairs of his house, “sent” the gang of robbers who kept asking him about Rs 15 lakh he was to pay as alimony, Peenya police said.
Kumar said the robbers barged in around 7.30 pm, threatened him with a knife before fleeing with the valuables. The robbers locked him and his daughter-in-law up in a room. Neighbours later rescued them. He claimed that Saroja’s brother also was involved.
Saroja, however, refuted the allegations, and even charged Kumar with “staging” the robbery. Speaking to reporters, she said that a family court had directed her husband to pay her a monthly maintenance of Rs 6,000. The case was to be heard on October 7. Saroja alleged that Kumar “put up the robbery” so as to tell the court that he had no money to pay her. She stressed that she was “in no way” connected with the incident.
Kumar, along with his mother and daughter-in-law, stays on the ground floor of the house and Saroja on the first floor.
Peenya police have registered a case. Sandeep Patil, DCP (North), said all aspects of the case would be investigated.
