Schattorie slams fourth official

United SC coach Eelco Schattorie, who was sent off in their game against Bengaluru FC here at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Sunday, vented his ire at the fourth official.

“In football, sometimes people talk loudly but then we all move on but the fourth official wasn’t prepared to do that. He probably wanted to go home and tell his wife that ‘I was the one who sent the coach off.’ I don’t think he has ever played football in his life,” said Schattorie.

The Dutch coach had been sent off for protesting too much and intimidating the linesman.
Schattorie also blamed BFC’s tactics in the second half.

“(I am) disappointed with BFC. If you want to be a top team, you don’t play with 11 players in your own half. You need to play more in my opinion,” added Schattorie.

He attributed the lack of fitness of his players for the loss and said that a few sponsors -- they have no sponsors at all -- had come forward with some funds but they weren’t willing to put their names on the club’s jerseys.

BFC coach Ashley Westwood was quick to dismiss the theory that BFC depended on set piece goals for victories.

“It’s a team game and we want to score from all over the field. We don’t just depend on any one individual,” said Westwood.

He was firmly tongue-in-cheek when asked if he agreed with Schattorie’s view that the hosts had gone on the defensive too early.

“Maybe we wouldn’t have played like that if they hadn’t conceded from that early corner.”
