This move was taken up by the University after taking note of the fact that certain Government aided and unaided colleges in the region have been deviating from the reservation policies of the Government while admission.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa informed that the colleges will have to mandatorily stick by the norms and the seat matrix issued by the Mangalore University, failing which stern action will be taken against the colleges, varying from disapproval of admission, penalty to disaffiliation depending on the quantum of deviation. He said that the University has brought in uniform admission schedule for all the colleges to avoid discrepancy in allocation of seats. Since some colleges have already started the admission, these admissions will be cancelled, he added.

Seat reservation

According to the seat matrix of the University, 50 per cent seats must be reserved for General merit, 15 per cent seats for Scheduled Caste, 03 per cent for Scheduled Tribe, 04 per cent for Category 1, 15 per cent for Category 2A, 04 per cent for Category 2B and 3A and 05 per cent for Category 3B.

In aided colleges, there is management quota of 20 per cent and seats will have to be reserved on merit basis while for unaided colleges, management quota is 50 per cent and the remaining are reservation on merit. In case of SC/ST colleges and Minority colleges, 50 per cent seats will have to be declared for that particular community itself and the remaining come under merit reservation.

LLB misappropriation

Prof Kaveriappa said that notice has been issued to 8 tabulators on the backdrop of alleged misappropriation in the evaluation and preparation of marks list of III Year LLB examination. A special officer will be placed to hold an enquiry into the issue only after receiving an explanation from the said 8 tabulators, he said and added that the mark list of the students who have gained benefit from the same will be cancelled.
