The Janatha Darshana of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in the city, on Tuesday, went haywire due to unruly crowd. Fortunately, no untoward incident was reported.

The party workers meeting held in the afternoon at the Government School Grounds, was disrupted due to rains. The chief minister had to deliver his speech under the shelter of an umbrella.

The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for Janatha Darshana at Kalakshetra as rains were expected.

Enclosures

It had directed the public, who wish to submit memoranda to the CM, to be seated at the designated enclosures, at the venue, at least 15 minutes in advance for the programme scheduled to begin at 11 am.

The CM arrived at 12.45 pm and some people waiting outside the Kalakshetra rushed on to the dais to hand over their petitions.

Those waiting with patience inside the venue were agitated by the developments and they also rushed towards the dais. The district administration’s plan to allow the physically challenged first, women next and common people later did not materialise.

Chaos prevailed for more than an hour. All the officials, including Deputy Commissioner V Anbu Kumar, were physically involved in controlling the mob.

As the people rushed, microphones, placed for the convenience of the people to air their grievances from their seats itself, fell down and got disconnected. The cables of the microphones and wires connecting some lights snapped.
