Exhibitors agree for rentals based on percentage

A meeting of producers and exhibitors convened by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce decided to adopt a system wherein rentals will be paid on percentage basis taking into account weekly collection at the box office. Chamber chairperson Jayamala told reporters, after the meeting that exhibitors had unanimously agreed to follow the percentage system keeping the interest of the industry. “The industry is not doing good. Both producers and exhibitors are suffering losses as many films fail to attract viewers. The Chamber took the interests of both the parties into consideration”, she said.

The Chamber has convened one more meeting of the representatives of producers, distributors, exhibitors and artistes, in the coming week. The proposed meeting is scheduled to discuss the rate of percentage that producers and exhibitors have to share.
Producers Association President KCN Chandrashekhar said the distributors had in principle agreed to follow the percentage system. “We welcome their decision. The next step is to work out strategies to implement the system,” he said. An action committee headed by S V Rajendra Singh Babu will hold talks with the exhibitors and work out strategies. The association, on Friday, had decided to stop film production from January 2010. He said the association would review the decision after the strategies for implementing the scheme are worked out effectively.
