Ashram schoolkids produced before CWC

Parents and their wards studying in the unauthorised residential school run by the Nityananda Dhyanapeetha Ashrama were produced before the District Children’s Welfare Committee (CWC) on Tuesday.

There are 100 students in the residential school which is not registered either under the Department of Women and Child Development or the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). “A notice was served to the Ashram by the district office. Also, the government had suggested that the kids who were residing there must be protected,” said K Radha, the District Child Protection Officer. After a notice was served, 88 kids along with their parents appeared before the Committee, she added.

The school has children from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka. After collecting their details and addresses, the same will be handed over to the departments of the state governments concerned, she said.

Block Education Officer Munikempegowda said that the school had students from LKG to Class 10. However, the Class 10 students can appear as private candidates and write their exams under the respective state governments. Shivalingaiah, member, CWC, said the school register had recorded 108 students of which 19 were sent back with their parents.
