Dravid all praise for Kumble and team

Rahul Dravid has been the guiding force for the incumbent group at the helm in KSCA so far as cricketing matters are concerned.

Many of his suggestions -- changing the Safi Darashah format to making second division and schools cricket to two-day affairs -- have been incorporated and the former India captain had a word of praise for the outgoing Anil Kumble and company.

“I was also playing at that time,” said Dravid when asked about him remaining largely behind the scene. “But Sri (Srinath), Anil and the others have done a lot of work. You have all seen what has been done in the last three years, the steps forward.

It is the hope that the next committee coming forward will not only improve the facilities and the infrastructure but also the cricketing thoughts and ideas. Help Karnataka produce more players to go on and play for India, help Karnataka produce cricketers who can win the Ranji Trophy,” he remarked.

The stylish right-hander, who retired from internatioal cricket in 2012, said he was always there to share his ideas with the new set of administrators.

“We are not going anywhere. Just because I am not in the committee doesn’t mean if someone asks me for a thought, I will not share it. I am not going to run away from that.

My role has been a lot more in the background. Anil and Sri have sacrificed a lot in probably the best years of their lives in these three years and done a hell of a lot along with other members in the committee.” Dravid said they will also keep a close watch on the happenings in the association.

“It has been a commendable effort by them (Kumbe and group). I think it is a commendable effort to also recognise that maybe it is time for some other people to come and take it forward but ensuring that we will not take our responsibilities away of keeping a watch on what is happening.”
