Timely action by police saves 3 lives

The timely intervention of the Chennammanakere Achchukattu police saved the lives of three persons at Ittamadu on Friday.

A team of four policemen - ASIs Manjunath, Ram Naik and constables Krishnamurthy and Prakash, acted swiftly following an alert from the public and prevented two murders and a suicide.

According to the police, Srinivas, a cab driver of a software company, tried to kill his wife Renuka and his mother-in-law Kempamma, before attempting suicide at his house in Manjunathnagar near Ittamadu.

All three have been shifted to a local hospital, where they are being treated for superficial injuries.

Srinivas, who hailed from Nagamangala, married Renuka from Srirangapatna seven years ago. Differences of opinion cropped up after Renuka suspected that her husband was in an illicit relationship with a woman. There used to be frequent quarrels over the issue.

On Friday, Srinivas consumed liquor at a bar and returned home. He locked the door from inside and started stabbing his wife and mother-in-law. Neighbours alerted the police after they heard commotion inside the house.

The police rushed to the scene and saw Srinivas stabbing Renuka and Kempamma. The police broke open the door, rescued the women and took Srinivas into custody.

Srinivas is believed to have confessed to police that he had decided to murder his wife and mother-in-law and kill himself.

He told them that his wife always suspected him of having an affair with another woman and used to taunt him over the issue. Srinivas, an associate of a notorious rowdy, had been arrested by the CCB police in the past.
