Road widening in Gauribidanur: DC gives one week's time

Last Updated 17 November 2009, 17:47 IST

Speaking at a public meeting in Town Municipal Council premises called to discuss clearing encroachments, the DC said that it had been agreed to clear 6 meters on from the centre of the road, on either side, during a meeting held in the presence of the legislator, previously. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to public to stick to their words.

However, a few shop owners said that a petition had been filed in the High Court over the issue and they would take a decision on clearing the encroachments only after the High Court delivers a verdict.

Warning that such a measure would become an impediment in the path of development of the town, the DC granted one week’s time to come to a decision.

Legislator N H Shivashankara Reddy said that the roads would have to be widened by about 100 meters if upgraded as National Highway and voluntary clearance will pave way for construction of a bypass and thus minimise the inconvenience.

Tahsildar Dr Sudha, Town Municipal Council chief officer Khwaja Moinuddin, TMC memebers and members of the trading community were present in the meeting.
