Villagers picket govt hospital; doctor sent on leave

A doctor serving at Shivalli Primary Health Centre was sent on compulsory leave for 15 days by the officers and elected representatives, after a group of villagers laid siege to the hospital, in Mandya, on Tuesday.

The villagers of Shivalli and other surrounding villages alleged that Dr Archana, was taking bribes for treatment, conducting foeticide, aside from harassing her colleagues. They picketed in front of the hospital, and demanded the doctor, who has been in service for more than a decade at the same place, be transferred immediately.

ZP president Bharathi Krishnamurthy, Standing Committee president Vijayananda, former vice-president Dr Shankaregowda, Health officer Dr Somashekar and others visited the spot.
The agitators surrounded the officials and alleged that the doctor had behaved arrogantly with a patient Shruthi, tore her pregnancy registration card and scanning reports when she visited the hospital for check-up.

Dr Archana also lodged a complaint against Shruthi at the police station. She has been threatening those who questioned her proximity with Minister Ambareesh and MP Ramya.
Several complaints to the District Health Officer and elected representatives have not yielded any results, they lamented.

Health and Standing Committee president Vijayanand said that they have received several complaints against Dr Archana. The higher officials who accompanied them to the spot have sent her on 15 days compulsory leave.

A comprehensive report will be sent through ZP CEO to the State government and Health Minister, he added.
