Rahul not a 'suspect' as of now

This was confirmed by the joint commissioner of police (Crime) Rakesh Maria on Tuesday, who told the media to observe restraint and not go overboard in reporting on the ongoing investigations.

“It is true that Rahul Bhatt came to the crime branch on his own and told that ‘Rahul’ being referred in the Headley’s emails was none other than himself,” Maria said. “Rahul told the crime branch that he knew Headley and volunteered information about the suspect,” Maria said. “Rahul is a witness in the case, not a suspect, as of now,” the crime branch chief said.

The National Investigation Agency has asked Rahul not to leave Mumbai and cooperate with it during the ongoing investigations into Headley’s activities in Mumbai. Earlier, reports suggested that Rahul had helped Headley in getting a flat on rent in Breach Candy area. Rahul, however, has denied it.
