JOIN USAn assistant commissioner of police (ACP) attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR), was grievously injured while his wife died on the spot in a hit-and-run accident on National Highway-44 near Penukonda, Ananthpur district, on Friday night.
Ramesh, deputy commissioner of police, CAR Headquarters, told Deccan Herald that Y S Khan, 57, had been to his native Raichur along with his wife Nazir Unnisa, 50, to attend a friend’s funeral. Khan was to report for duty on Saturday and the couple were returning to Bangalore in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) when the accident occurred.
Police said Khan was driving his SUV while his wife was seated next to him in the front seat. They left Raichur Friday night after having dinner.
Narasimha Rao, sub-inspector, Chinna Kottapalli police station on NH-44 said that they were alerted of an SUV meeting with an accident, at about 12:30 am. When they rushed to the spot, they found Khan severely injured and his wife dead. The front portion of the SUV was damaged, due to probably a head-on collision. Rao said they identified Khan from the ID card on his person. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for the first aid. The Chinna Kottapalli police have registered a hit-and-run case.
Khan was brought to Columbia Asia Hospital in the City on Saturday, from where he was later shifted to Hosmat Hospital. Dr Ajith B Royan of Hosmat Hospital said that Khan has suffered a fracture of his left arm and a composite fracture of the left hip bone. Mosin Khan, the ACP’s eldest son, said his father is out of danger. Autopsy on Unnisa was conducted at Dharmavaram government hospital and the body was being brought to the City.
