A 60-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by three women outside her house in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar on Friday. Police said the victim died due to cardiac arrest, but have arrested the accused.

The victim has been identified as Kamlesh Mahana, who lived with family in West Patel Nagar. According to police, she was attacked over a dispute with her neighbour Seema Kohli, 57. “It was due to a case of molestation that Seema’s daughter registered against Kamlesh’s son Arun,” a police officer said.

At around 5 pm on Friday, a heated argument broke out between Kamlesh and Seema with Seema’s daughter and another relative, Muskan, joining in subsequently. Kamlesh’s family members were not at home.

The verbal spat soon turned into a scuffle during which Kamlesh collapsed.

When she fell unconscious, the three women fled from the spot. Locals informed police at around 5.30 pm, and took Kamlesh to a nearby private hospital. When Kamlesh’s medical condition began to deteriorate, doctors referred her to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. “She died while undergoing treatment,” the officer added.

Kamlesh’s son Arun later told police that she was attacked by their neighbours. However, it has also been revealed that she was suffering from diseases and having health problem.

After Kamlesh’s death, a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code was registered. Seema, her daughter and Muskan were arrested.

Investigating officers believe that Kamlesh died due to cardiac arrest during the altercation.

“We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death,” the officer said.

Police have recorded Arun’s statement and that of Seema and her family members. Locals claim the two families were often involved in tiffs and also had a heated argument on Thursday. Kamlesh’s body was handed over to family after post-mortem on Saturday.
