Highway accident claims 3 lives

Three men were killed on the spot after a lorry rammed a trailer transporting an earthmover near Subhashnagar on National Highway-4 in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Rizwan (51), Ziaullah (45) and lorry driver Nagaraj (44), all hailing from Davangere. The three were travelling by the goods lorry transporting vegetables from the City to Davangere.

According to police, the accident occurred when the driver of the trailer applied brakes suddenly on the elevated highway and the lorry rear-ended the trailer.

The jaw of the earthmover smashed into the driver’s cabin of the lorry, killing all  three. Rizwan and Ziaullah are said to be relatives of the lorry owner. Deepak, the cleaner of the lorry, escaped with minor injuries.

Nelamangala police, who rushed to the spot, had a tough time in extricating the bodies from the mangled vehicle. A case has been registered.

Man bludgeoned

A 65-year-old man was bludgeoned to death by his son-in-law in Weavers’ Colony on Bannerghatta Road on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Susainathan from Anekal.

According to police, Sagairaj married Mary, the elder daughter of Susainathan, 12 years ago. Following a dispute between the couple over some financial issue, Sagairaj, a construction worker, had sent his wife to her parents house recently. Susainathan came to the house of his son-in-law on Saturday night to broker peace between the couple.

According to investigations, the two were inebriated and soon a brawl broke out between them. In a fit of rage, Sagairaj bludgeoned his father-in-law to death with a huge stone and fled the spot.

The incident came to light after the body of Susainathan was found in the bushes of the forest area near Weavers’ Colony on Sunday morning. Hulimavu police have arrested Sagairaj on murder charge.

Jobless youth hangs self

An unemployed youth ended his life at his Rajiv Gandhi Nagar house on Saturday evening. Manjunath (26) hailed from Madhugiri in Tumkur district and was working as a security guard in the City. However, he lost his job over a dispute three months ago and was unemployed since.

He had married recently and on Saturday evening his wife had been to market when he ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan. Madiwala police have registered a case.
