Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra on Monday held “chaupal” (meeting) at several villages in her mother's Lok Sabha constituency of Raebareli, and assured the attendees that every effort would be made to solve their problems.

Priyanka, who arrived in Raebareli on Monday on a two-day tour, visited a number of villages in the Kheron area of the constituency and listened to local residents.

According to local Congress leaders, the people complained to Priyanka about the shortage of power and drinking water, and the bad condition of roads.

Priyanka, sources said, apprised the electorate of the developmental work done by the Centre and said the Centre was trying to do everything possible to solve their problems, besides seeking their support.

She also inaugurated a solar power plant in the village of Semri in the constituency.
Poll preparedness

Priyanka, who has taken charge of the constituency, also met party workers and discussed booth-level preparations by the Congress for the Lok Sabha election next year.

Since Sonia's surgery, Priyanka has become more active in Raebareli. She has decided to meet the electorate from the constituency on a weekly basis in Delhi.

UP Congress leaders have been rooting for Priyanka's entry into active politics for quite some time now.

Priyanka had in the past campaigned for Sonia in Raebareli. In the recent assembly poll too, she had campaigned aggressively, but the Congress failed to win even a single seat in the constituency.

Local party workers had then complained that infighting among the leaders and inaccessibility of their representative were some of the reasons behind the dismal performance.
