Pejawar seer clarifies his statement

Pejawar Mutt seer Vishweshatheertha Swami on Wednesday clarified his statement on giving Vaishnava deeksha to Kurubas.

Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday, he said: “At a recent debate on Saint Kanakadasa, one of the mediapersons sought to know whether I am ready to give Vaishnava deeksha to Kurubas. I said I am ready to give for those who are willing to take it. Had I said no, then it would have led to another controversy.”

People with vested interests have twisted the statement and projected it with an intention to create a controversy, he said.

Vaishnavas and Kurubas have a long history of bonding. Saint Kanakadasa worshipped Lord Krishna after taking the deeksha. So there is nothing wrong in taking the deeksha. “I have not shown any disrespect to people belonging to Kuruba community,” he added.

On the demand that the government should take over Krishna temple in Udupi, he said it was an irrelevant issue. “Are the people who want the government to take over the temple demanding take over of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Shivaganga Mutt and Suttur Mutt?” he said.
