Sanjay Dutt, who was on a four-week furlough (out of jail) ,returned to Pune’s Yerawada Central Prison on Wednesday to complete the remaining 42 months of his jail term.

Dutt, convicted for possessing prohibitive fire arms during the Mumbai riots of 1992-93, was sentenced to jail for five years.

At 6.30 am on Wednesday, Dutt, accompanied by his wife Maanyata, left his residence in Bandra and reached the prison two hours later.

Wishing the gathered media persons “happy Diwali”, Dutt said the pain in his legs continue to trouble him.

“It is better now but the problem is persisting. I hope you will pray for my early release...thanks for respecting my privacy during this four-week period,” he said.

Dutt was released on a 14-day furlough on October 1, which was extended to 14 more days on health grounds. Earlier, prison staff, during a medical check, found the actor had blood clots in his legs.

In May, after the Supreme Court upheld the prison sentence handed to him by the special TADA court but reducing it to five years, Dutt opted for the Yerawada prison to complete his punishment. In prison, the actor is given the job of making eco-friendly bags.
