Alleged misbehaviour of senior Samajwadi Party leader and Uttar Pradesh Minister for Urban Development Azam Khan has triggered a revolt among his staff and several employees have expressed their inability to continue to work with him and sought their transfer.

In a letter to Azam, as many as five staff members, including two private secretaries, said despite doing their best they have not been able to come up to the minister’s expectation and so they should be relieved and transferred elsewhere.

They also accused Azam of misbehaving with them and using unparliamentary language while dealing with them.

“We are under tremendous stress owing to your behaviour,” they said in the letter. The secretariat employees’ union has also supported the staff members and demanded that the minister be immediately sacked.

“Such a minister should not be allowed to remain in the cabinet,” union’s president Yadvendra Mishra said.

Azam Khan is known for his bad temper and in the past also he had been criticised for his outbursts against the public servants.

The Principal Secretary, Urban Development C B Paliwal has proceeded on long leave after he reportedly found it difficult to work under the minister. Before him Praveer Kumar too had to be shifted after the minister said he did not want him in the department.

Many key posts in the department remained vacant for a long time as no officer was ready to work under Azam.

A few days back, several doctors at Rampur district hospital in Azam’s Assembly constituency had written to the health officers seeking transfer from there and complained that the minister had misbehaved with them while he was visiting the hospital.

Earlier at a public function, Azam had called the police officers dalals (brokers).
