While people were eager to make most of the last day of Deepavali festivities, overcast skies and rainfall set a tone of gloom here on Monday.

Though tourist hubs in the city bustled with activity thanks to a healthy flow of tourist, a heavy downpour during the day, almost played spoilsport to the festive spirit.

The mood for Monday was set early, with overcast conditions signalling the possibility of rainfall. The skies opened up at around 11 am in the morning, followed by two short spells of rainfall in the evening. This resulted in a dip in cracker sales on the last day of Deepavali, with traders who had set up shops at J K Grounds, having less buyers than normal due to rains.

Festive spirit of Deepavali revived during evening, which was marked by sounds of crackers being burst in front of almost all households in the city. Despite awareness campaigns against the use of crackers, few, if not many, chose to engage themselves in the festival by bursting them.

Rainfall

Scattered rainfall was reported throughout the city on Monday, with a forecast for light showers expected on Tuesday. As of 7 pm on Monday, the city had recorded scattered rainfall of 22.5 mm. Rainfall was recorded throughout Mysore district, with Mysore taluk receiving the highest rainfall. Other parts of the district such as Hunsur, H D  Kote and Nanjangud too received isolated to widespread rainfall during the day.

Rains were reported in other parts of South Interior Karnataka, such as Hassan, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts. However, rainfall was less in Kodagu district.

Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district received the maximum rainfall in the region, with 30 mm of fairly widespread rainfall. Other parts of the district too received light to moderate rainfall during the day. Isolated instances of rainfall was also reported in Mandya districts, while rainfall was sparse in Hassan and Kodagu districts.
