Apex court accepts Bhushan apology

Last Updated 20 November 2013, 20:09 IST

The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed its “disturbance and disappointment” over advocate Prashant Bhushan making remarks against the bench hearing the coalgate case.

Bhushan had said in an interview to ‘Outlook’ magazine that the bench was hesitant in taking action in the matter

However, the bench, also comprising justices Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph, decided not to proceed against Bhushan after he apologised for his remarks.

“We got very disturbed when it was brought to our notice and listed the case for today (Wednesday). We are not used to such statements from a counsel of your stature in a matter of such magnitude. We always say justice should not only be done but also seems to be done. You cannot imagine how much this hurt us,” the bench said.

Bhushan, on his part, apologised and said he was extremely sorry if his statements hurt the bench.
