A birthday, the kid will never forget

Last Updated 21 November 2013, 18:06 IST

As Jyothi tries hard to come out of the shock, her daughter Aatmika, who will turn four this Friday still continues to believe that her mother is at her friend’s place, she will be back soon and they will have a birthday party. Each time the child asks her dad, he is left with no option but to repeat the lie over and again just to keep his daughter happy.

“Since the time Jyothi has shown signs of recovery, the only thing that she has been thinking about is to celebrate her daughter’s birthday,” her husband, Uday Kumar, said. Ironically, the woman who went to with draw money for her daughter's birthday celebrations, might not even be a part of it. "She will only have a small celebration at school where she will distribute chocolates to children," Uday said, adding that at this moment they cannot think of anything else.

Aathmika, who goes to a montessori is now under the care of her mother’s friend. "Usually, I would pick her up, but now, her mother's friend does it. They have been extremely helpful," he added.  Aathmika who keeps enquiring about her mother's  absence has been told that she was at one of her friend's place and would come back soon.

The couple, who hail from Thiruvananthapuram, live in Rajarajeshwarinagar. Jyothi is an MBA graduate and works with Corporation Bank while Uday runs a transport business in Mysore. He travels daily to Mysore and on the fateful day, he saw his wife off at the bus stand as was their routine.

Uday urged the government to increase the security measures at all ATM kiosks so that no other person suffers a similar fate as his wife.  He was also of the opinion that even if his wife withdrew the money and handed it over to the attacker, he would still hurt her physically. "Out of the fear that she would alert people outside by screaming, he would have still hit her. It does not matter that she did not do what he asked her," he said.

Victim on recovery path

Dr N K Venkataramana, Chief Neurosurgeon and Vice-Chairman, BGS Global Hospitals said Jyothi’s condition improved on Thursday and the pain had subsided. “It will take time for the swelling to come down and for the wounds to heal. She will have to undergo physiotherapy sessions and the paralysis status is pretty much the same," he added. Other vital parameters were stable and the results of a few other tests were awaited, the doctor explained.

Uday, Jyothi’s husband, said the doctors also organised counselling sessions for him and the other family members to ensure post care. "Even she might have to under go counselling to ensure that the shock does not affect her well being. However, we will take a call once she is shifted to the ward,” he added.
