People stood spell bound at the thrilling moments of the power show of brands such as Gypsy, Esteem, Baleno, Cedia. Gypsys received more applause from the spectators than the Esteems, for they were superior in speed and ‘acrobatics’. For the first time in the history of the City, a large number of people gathered for a car rally.

A total of 37 competitors contested the event. They included renowned teams from MRF and Redrooster.

When Ashwin Gowda and Dr Akarsha (Chikmagalur) with the 36th ranking, Shafiq Ur Rehman (Mudigere) with the 34th ranking, and Girijashankar Joshi (Kalasa) with the 11th ranking arrived on the ground with their cars, the spectars came out with a thundering applause to encourage the competitors from their own place.

Addressing a press meet prior to the rally, the members of MRF and Redrooster said success requires luck apart from effort. “We face all levels of the contest with pleasure. Of the 13 rallies I contested, I have won seven. The present rally is the decisive one,” said Gowrav
Gill, the main attraction of the rally.

Coffee Day Resorts Company President Nanaiah, the rally organisers’ representatives Bharath Raj, Shivu Shivappa, Phanit Perumal were present. MLA C T Ravi and DCC Bank President S L Bhoje Gowda flagged off the rally at Amber Valley School.

Students of Amber Valley School clad in green dresses performed a ‘nature dance’ prior to the rally. However, it looked absurd when three cheergirls were brought to the gound once the rally began.
