Japanese royal couple to visit Chennai

 For the first time, the royal couple from the land of the rising sun will jet into “Namma Chennai” on December 4, perhaps to savour the flavour of South India famous for “filter kapi” and “idly sambar” and Bharatanatyam, the famous dance form, at Kalakshetra in the city.

“This is the first time that an emperor of Japan is visiting Chennai. The royal couple want to experience South Indian culture and Chennai is the most apt place for it,” Consul General of Japan Masanori Nakano said.

According to him, the royal couple will arrive here on December 4 and for 79-year-old Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, Kalakshetra is on the top of the list of places to visit in Chennai.

At Kalakshetra, Emperor Akihito will witness a veena recital, Bharatanatyam performance and a dance demonstration.

During their two-day stay in Chennai, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will also visit the Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu. The emperor and his wife will also be visiting the Raj Bhavan to meet the governor, who will be hosting a lunch. Raj Bhavan sources said that South Indian food will also be a part of the menu.
