B'lore rail division nets Rs 930 cr revenue till Nov-end

The revenue of Bangalore Division of South Western Railway (SWR) in the current financial year till November-end was Rs 930.09 crore as against last year's revenue of Rs 758.88 crore between April and November, according to Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Anil Kumar Agarwal.

Briefing reporters, he said the surge in revenue was due to goods, parcel, passenger fetching good earnings, besides other sundry earnings. On ticket checking drive, he said last year Rs 4.47 crore was collected from 1.24 lakh ticket-less travellers during the drive. This year till November, Rs 6.02 crore has been collected from 1.42 lakh commuters. Agarwal said an extensive drive has been launched to achieve zero per cent ticket-less travel from November 21 which will go on till December 20.

“We had also received a communication from the Chairman of the Railway Board, New Delhi to launch a crackdown against ticket-less traveling. Between November 21 and November 30, we collected a penalty of Rs 2.41 lakh from 914 defaulters. This has resulted in the increase of window sales up to 14,814 tickets all over the division,” Agarwal said.

According to data provided by him, maximum cases of ticket-less travel were reported in Bangalore City Railway Station (3,796 cases), Yeshwantpur Railway Station (3,366 cases) and Krishnarajapuram Railway Station (1,908). Speaking on the need to increase infrastructure facilities to meet the demand for trains to North, Agarwal said the existing line capacity and coach availability need to be enhanced to meet the demand for rush from Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Patna, Kolkata and Delhi.

The DRM said, “There are at least 15 destinations where the demand is high and it could be achieved only if the Railway Board announces more trains.
