Three of BJP’s candidates, including the party president Vijay Goel, were attacked at different places in the national capital on Monday, claimed the BJP members.

The first attack took place in Samaypur Badli in outer Delhi where BJP party member Vijay Bhagat was attacked by a group of Congressmen while he was campaigning.

The party’s Delhi president Vijay Goel alleged that they approached the local police to register an FIR but no action was taken.

However, police denied getting any complaint on the issue. “We have not received any such complaint so far,” said a senior police officer.

In another incident, Vijay Goel and BJP candidate from Model Town constituency - Ashok Goel -- were attacked in north west Delhi’s Model Town.

Vijay Goel in a statement stated, “The BJP had already informed the Election Commission about the sensitivity of certain polling booths in this constituency and despite that, the attack happened.”

In addition to a complaint filed to the Election Commission regarding the attack, the party has also demanded that a case should be immediately registered.

The police said that they have received the complaint from the party and are verifying the claims. “We have received a copy of the complaint and the claims are being verified. We will take a call on further action on it,” said the officer.

In the complaint filed with the Election Commission, Ashok Goel stated that the attack took place between 11.30 am to 12.30 pm.

The attack took place at Gur Mandi, Rajpura when Vijay Goel and Ashok Goel had gone to campaign. A person who was later identified as Dinesh Kumar, along with some other persons, abused, threatened and then physically attacked the party members with hockey sticks, iron rods and sticks, stated a Vijay Goel’s statement.

The attackers also damaged the two vehicles in which Vijay Goel and Ashok Goel were travelling. The miscreants also attacked one of the drivers, identified as S Vinod Kumar. He was injured in the incident.

Ashok Goel, in his complaint, said that these miscreants should immediately be removed from the area and appropriate action should be taken against the culprits to ensure free and fair polls, it further read.
