Sindhurakshak to be salvaged soon

Talks between the empowered committee instituted to look into the salvaging of sunken submarine INS Sindhurakshak and professional salvers has reached the final stage. A decision will be taken in a day or two.

The ill-fated INS Sindhurakshak went down in a ball of blaze at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard on August 14.

Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Western Naval Command) Vice-Admiral Shekhar Sinha said five international companies had put in their bids, out of which two were rejected on technical grounds.

“The voluminous tenders submitted by three companies were extensively studied by the committee. The decision of the salvers selected will be announced probably in a couple of days,” Vice-Admiral Sinha said.
