Son of controversial jailed godman Asaram Bapu, Narayan Sai was arrested on Tuesday night after he was traced, chased and nabbed from a Haryana village. He was needed in a sexual assault case lodged in Gujarat’s Surat. He was on run for last 58 days and hiding at several places across north India.

He was produced at a Rohini court in the national capital and thereafter handed over to a four-member team of the Gujarat Police on Wednesday evening.

Narayan Sai was clad-in track suit, a saffron headgear and a jacket to hide his identity when he was nabbed along with his chauffeur Ramesh and disciple Kaushal Thakur alias Bhakt Hanuman on Tuesday in Delhi.

“Our team was working on Narayan Sai whereabouts for last two months. They got a tip-off that Sai was hiding somewhere in Haryana. The team laid a trap and he was nabbed from Pipli village near Kurukshetra in Haryana,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Yadav said they got a tip off that he was hiding at a protective shelter for cows in Ludhiana owned by Pankaj Agnihotri. “We sent a team on Sunday and before our team could nab him from there, he left the place and was heading towards Delhi as he thought ‘Assembly polls was the best time’ to enter the city to sign some legal documents,” the officer said.

The police collected the details of the vehicle in which he, along with his associate, had left Ludhiana. “It was further learnt that he left in an Eco Sport vehicle of silver or white colour and having UP registration number.

Immediately, four police teams left for Haryana on Tuesday so that all the escape routes and diversions on National highway number one could be checked.

A police team noticed the vehicle moving at very high speed on NH-1 towards Delhi. The vehicle was followed. After following the vehicle for some distance, it was overtaken and stopped at Pipli village Kurushetra. On questioning, they gave some other identity.
