Polls over, politicians feel at home with families

A day after the Delhi Assembly polls got over, candidates on Thursday spent quality time with family and children relaxing at home. Others got back to their normal routine while a few are anxiously waiting for the results that will be declared on Sunday.

“I spent the day at home. To beat the stress, I went for a walk at Lodhi Gardens, which is also my favourite spot for relaxing,” said Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Vijender Kumar Gupta, contesting against Sheila Dikshit from New Delhi constituency.

Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, 44, also had a gala time at home. “I woke up a little late today as it got late yesterday. I was busy meeting party workers after the polling was over. Today I stayed home with my children and wife,” Lovely, who is contesting from Gandhi Nagar told Deccan Herald.

Delhi Transport Minister Rama Kant Goswami’s routine was more or less the same. “The day after polling is meant to relax. But that doesn’t mean we can escape our duties. I did attend a few meetings today,” said Goswami, who seeks a second term in Rajinder Nagar constituency.

Some candidates got back to their usual routine. “I left house at around 10 am. During the last one month I have been starting from home at 6 am to attend meetings and padyatras. But today I took few hours to rest. At 7 pm I attended a meeting called by Nitin Gadkari,” said Poornima Vidyarthi, a BJP candidate from Patel Nagar.

“We can’t sit home for the whole day as we have other responsibilities too,” added Poornima, who is also North Corporation’s deputy mayor.

A candidate from Rashtriya Aikta Manch Party echoed similar views.

“I did take some time off to unwind. But later on I was busy attending party meetings. We were briefing party members who will be deployed at counting stations,” said 30-year-old Gauri Shankar, contesting from Mundka constituency.

“We are eagerly waiting for the results. We look forward to counting of votes that will happen on Sunday,” added Shankar.
